how it started
the history of heartland community church
Our journey began in June 1986 when 28 committed believers gathered together in God’s name to plant a church—one dedicated to loving, educating, serving and advancing God’s kingdom here in the Heartland.
It began small, with Senior Pastor Craig McElvain (Mac) teaching from an ironing-board pulpit in a family’s basement on Sunday mornings.
His and the group’s goal: to provide ministry and outreach opportunities to those who might be skeptical, uncomfortable or unfamiliar with church. Essentially, the group was building a “church for the unchurched.” Learn more here…
